Have you ever dropped your ice cream cone?
In 2001, artist Claes Oldenburg and his wife Coosje van Bruggen were commissioned to created this giant sculpture on top of a shopping mall in Cologne, Germany. The decision to place the sculpture on top of the building was made because the streets surrounding that area were already too congested with people.
The artists say the waffle cone reminded them of ancient churches in the city. Claes Oldenburg is known for his giant sculptures of everyday objects and is strongly associated with the PoP ArT MoVeMeNt.
